Curriculum

Our staff are skilled at setting activities at a pace that each child will view as exciting, and at a level that is related to their development.

Activities are gradually extended to maintain the child’s interest and give them the opportunity to reach their maximum potential through a process of increasing self-confidence and self-worth.
Extra activities, such as French and Spanish, are introduced when they reach pre-school age.

While these exercises add to the child’s experiences, we recognise that it is the skill and empathy of our teachers and staff which is the most important factor influencing the children’s well-being and learning.

Outings

Regular outings are also introduced in pre-school. Children will visit libraries, museums, farms, and many other areas of interest. We also take the children to multi-cultural restaurants, for example we will go to a Chinese restaurant at Chinese New Year.

With safety of the children paramount, ratios of staff to children are always high on our outings. In addition, we always undertake a risk assessment prior to a visit.

Learning

The learning environment takes the children through several areas. These include maths, language and literacy, science, creativity, physical  development, understanding of the environment, and emotional and social development.

Children learn to work in groups as well as how to investigate individually. Role-play, drama, singing and dancing are all considered equally important.

Equal Opportunities

Childhood is an important time for developing awareness. Our staff consider that they have a responsibility to encourage a positive attitude towards all individuals. To achieve this we use images, books, activity times and the celebration of festivals, all of which help to promote awareness and inclusion.

Behaviour

Children are set clear boundaries and guidelines for their safety and the safety of others. This enables them to plan and have some control over their environment. The ability to understand the needs of others and awareness to know when something is right or wrong is a vital part of a child’s development. We regularly use positive reinforcement to promote ‘good’ behaviour.

More detailed information on the curriculum and methods we use can be found in our parent handbook.
